There’s a PogoPlug in my living room…

…and I’m loving it.

Why?  What’s a PogoPlug do?

PogoPlug is a dead-simple Linux-based cloud computer that has only three connections – power, network, and USB.  Power and network are self-explanatory.  The USB sockets gets a storage device – external hard drive, flash drive, card reader, etc.

After you register your PogoPlug, your storage device is accessible via myPogoPlug.com.  You can browse your files via the web interface, or add the drive as a drive letter on your computer.

There are iPhone and Android apps for PogoPlug but they are beta versions.  Not much functionality there yet.

So why would you want to do this?  you could make your music collection available anywhere or share files with friends and family.

And of course there’s a hacker/modder community around the PogoPlug, the most prolific of which is OpenPogo.com.
